뉴노멀 시대의 비대면 설교에 대한 신학적 성찰

본 연구는 팬데믹 상황하에서 한국 교회의 예배와 설교 현장에 일어난 변화에 주목하면서 그 중에서도 특히 설교에 대한 부분을 중심으로 다룬 것이다. 예배 중단이라는 급작스러운 상황에 내몰리면서 어떠한 신학적 성찰이나 준비없이 비대면 상황에서 설교를 선포할 수 밖에 없었기 때문이다. 특별히 말씀을 중시 여기는 개혁 교회와 청교도 예배의 영향을 받아 설교를 최우선으로 여겼던 한국 교회 설교 전통을 생각해보면 이러한 연구의 필요성이 절실하다 하겠다. 마스크를 낀 설교자가 텅 빈 예배당의 강대상에 서서 설교를 녹화하거나 실시간으로 중계를 하고, 교인들은 여러 매체를 이용하여 녹화한 설교나 실시간 설교를 시청하고 있는 실정이다. 신앙 공동체가 공동의 장소에 모여 함께 예배를 드리며 설교를 듣고 찬양하고 기도하며 결단과 파송을 통해 삶의 자리로 나아갔던 일상이 와해되면서 새로운 온라인/비대면상에서 정체성과 공동체성을 다시 세워나가야 하는 현상을 보게 된다. 한 가지 분명한 것은 팬데믹 상황이 종식된다고 해도, 이러한 비대면 설교의 순기능을 살리면서 계속 확산될 것이라는 점에 주목해 나가야 한다는 점이다. 한편으로는 무분별하게 쏟아져 나오는 온라인상의 설교를 보면서 우려되는 것은 아직도 불모지와 다름없는 교회 내의 리터러시 교육과 저작권에 관한 부분이다. 이에 대한 인식도 매우 낮을 뿐 아니라 특히 저작권의 경우, 실제 목회 현장에서의 개 교회가 실행하기에는 부담이 매우 크고 역부족인 사례가 많다는 현실 자각을 하면서, 교단별 혹은 기독교 전체 차원에서 대처 방안을 논의하고 실행해 나가야만 한다. 이상의 내용들을 중심으로, 본 연구는 뉴노멀 시대의 정의와 코로나 시대를 맞이하여 변화가 일어난 설교 현장에 대해 다른 신학자들이 언급한 여러 성찰들을 살펴보면서 단순한 문제 해결이 아니라 발전적인 미래를 위하여 염두에 두어야 할 것이 무엇인지를 고찰한다. 그리하여, 이러한 성찰과 발전적 비판을 바탕으로 비대면 설교 현장에서 실천 가능한 방안들은 어떠한 것인지를 제시하는 것이 궁극적인 목적이다.
Abstract
This article focuses on changes in worship and context of preaching in Korean protestant churches with specific emphasis on changes in preaching in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It became necessary to study this unique phenomenon as worship services have been suddenly suspended and yet preaching had to continue without face-to-face interactions while there has been no preparation and no theological examination of any kind. It is argued that this research is essential in the backdrop of Korean tradition of preaching which has been considered to be the utmost importance in the reformed church tradition and the influential aspect of Puritan worship tradition. The current situation of worship service is either preachers record their sermon in empty church buildings or their preaching is broadcasted live. Participating members view the preaching through many media. A new phenomenon of building identity and communality in the new on-line or non-face-to-face environment, as routines of faith community gathering in a public space to worship, sing praises, listen to preaching, praying, and then being commissioned back to their daily livelihood collapse. It is predicted that such positive effect of on-line/non-face-to-face participation in preaching may continue and even proliferate long after the end of the pandemic. Another issue that arises from on-line preaching flooding many channels of media is literacy education and copyright in the church which is still quite underdeveloped. Not only do they become aware of the issues, but also, in the specific case of copyright, it is impractical for individual churches to carry out duties concerning copyright issues. A plan to tackle such issues may need to be discussed and implemented church-wide. This article first examines a definition of new normal era, and several reflections and alternatives on changing context of preaching due to COVID-19 pandemic as mentioned by several theologians. Then, it reflects on constructive future considerations, rather than simple problem-solving suggestions.
