Abstract
In the era of digital transformation, Christians face increasing challenges in becoming stewards of the digital realm, necessitating urgent theological curriculum redesigns. The aim of this study is to elevate awareness of digital literacy within ministerial contexts. To this end, this study introduce a case study focused on a digital literacy course offered to seminarians at P Theological Seminary. Initial investigations into digital literacy educational needs revealed a notable disparity in perceived importance and implementation (z=-3.408, p=.001), highlighting the students' recognition of the need for digital literacy enhancement. Pre- and post-course comparisons showed a significant improvement in digital literacy, with post-course (Mdn=4.39 (3.89-4.78)) surpassing pre-course levels (Mdn=3.11 (2.94-3.56)), evidenced by a significant difference (z=-3.078, p=.002). Factor analysis further demonstrated significant advancements in all four assessed areas: change management (z=-2.943, p=.003), information and data utilization (z=-2.914, p=.004), digital communication (z=-2.833, p=.005), and digital creativity (z=-3.195, p=.001). High median scores were also recorded for digital literacy efficacy (Mdn=4.67 (4.00-5.00)) and class satisfaction (Mdn=4.90 (4.10-5.00)), with no discernible differences across demographic variables. This study is a noteworthy case of the intersection between a crisis, in which only a small percentage (N=17) of seminarians in a digitally transformed world recognized the need for digital literacy and enrolled in the class, and an opportunity, in that the class can develop the digital literacy skills necessary for ministry.
