Abstract
Studies on Korean literature in Chinese character have investigated ‘nation,’ ‘modern ages’ and ‘progress’ for last 30 years. However, the concepts of ‘nation’ and ‘modern ages’ in the Korean pre-modern society were produced by Korean scholars, as equivalents to the Western modern ages and nationalism. It means that nation and modern ages did not exist on the inside of Korean literature in Chinese character. Now it is necessary that we correct the viewpoint of studying Korean literature in Chinese character as massive narratives(discourses) which nation, modern ages and the people connote. I propose a study on the relations between Korean literature in Chinese character and pre-modern Korean people’s daily lives, as a counterproposal to existing studies based on massive narratives. The daily lives in this study, of course, mean those where the ideology of the pre-modern ages had been accomplished, not valueless fragments of lives. This study more subtly ascertains the specific aspects that the national ideology of the pre-modern ages controlled people’s lives, as well as the endeavors of the people who tried to get out of the ideological control.
