甘露幀畵에 나타난 追薦對象의 持續과 變化

Abstract

Amrita painting(甘露幀畵), which was used for the buddhist ceremony for the dead(死者儀禮), consists of three sections: the world of Buddha and Bodhisattva in the upper section, the scene of buddhist ceremony of giving food in the center section, and the vengeful spirits(冤魂), lonely spirits(孤魂), faminished spirits(餓鬼), and all sentient beings in hell(地獄衆生) at the bottom section. This study was conducted in order to investigate the Cheondo objects, especially in Amrita painting, the Chucheon objects(追薦對像) describing cycles of life which was seen at the bottom differ a little from those in another paintings and they(追薦對像) have unique characteristics which was changeable in the ways of expressing. The bottom section of the Amrita painting was not standardized, formal, but various scenes related with human's life was simply presented. This showed the Chucheon objects associated with the actual death at that time. Those who were seen as the Chucheon objects in the Amrita painting are the vengeful spirits and the lonely spirits that had lived hard and tough life which were reflected social-cultural backgrounds, and that had been dead due to the starvation and diseases from a natural calamity. Therefore, in Amrita painting, the change of the scenes at the bottom section reflects the social-cultural backgrounds, and the disaster at the time. However, the historical declination of the preserved Amrita paintings is not regular, so there are some limits not decreasing between the Chucheon objects and the age backgrounds.
