Abstract

This study explores interrelationship between Korean historical-folklife and material, production custom study. It analyzes research results concerning matter, production custom from articles published at Korean Historical-folklife Association. It lists these articles' publication years, writers, titles, dates, and brief contents to examine the history of research. The reader will easily refer to the table of contents and the source of these articles in footnotes. The result of analysis is as follows: Most of all, the researcher group is limited. This limitation has several reasons. First, the ‘mind-oriented’ study has been dominant in all fields of historical-folklife as mentioned in the introduction. Second, the researchers' department restricts the condition for research into production relation. The current researchers in this field, nevertheless, have made their own commitments. Third, it is difficult to conduct a study on matter, production relation which requires a ground theory such as the history of socioeconomics to yield productive results. However, it is predicted that interest in matter and production will increase from now. Korean historical-folklife's orientation toward spiritual culture so far has caused the lack of studies on material culture. Also, research into production relation will proliferate as the academic climate changes to emphasizing material relations.
