Abstract
This paper is to show some structures in the vocabulary and sound of Jamaican Talk `Patois`, so called creolized language and to analize the changed functions of sturctures influenced by the unique social pattern formed from the beginning as the ruler, the few British whites and the ruled, Akan and Ewe blacks from Africa. The ruled, black slaves form Patois by adopting their sound from their ruler`s vocabulary for their own convenience and by simplifying the complicated pronunciation into more practical use. They develope their authentic conversation structures such as using `do` instead of `please`, using `beg` instead of `ask`, and using only `mek(make)` inteasd of using two other verbs `help and let`, as well. Approximately 400 years of extreme social structures of the rulers and the rules and the haves and have-nots are under change by recent political and social tumoils. Thus it will be of great interest to see how Jamaican Talk adopts its social change.
