Abstract
This study examines the structure of Tense Phrases(TPs) in Korean Conjunctive Constructions. I focus on the position which the conjunctive construction appears in the elements of tense. As a result, I found that there are four types of TPs in Korean conjunctive constructions as follows. In type A, the elements of tense synthesize the preceeding sentence and the accompanying sentence respectively, and is formulated as "[[VP_1] T_1] + [[VP_2] T_2]." In type B, the elements of tense synthesize the whole of the preceeding and the accompanying sentence as "[VP_1+VP_2] T." In type C, the elements of tense synthesize only the accompanying sentence as "[VP_1]+[[VP_2] T]." In type D, the structure cannot be configurated as a syntactic structure as types A, B, and C. If I interpret the tense of these types and illustrate the conjunctive endings, I can describe them as follows. Type A can be interpreted as the absolute tense of both the preceeding sentence and the accompanying sentence respectively. The conjunctive endings are : `-거나, -든지, -고_1, -으며_1, -다가_1, -지만, -으나, -으면_1, -어야_1, -어도_1, -으니까_1, -은대_1,` etc. Type B can be interpreted as the absolute tense of the whole sentence(preceeding sentence and the accompanying sentence). The conjuctive endings are `-고_2, -으며_2, -다가_2, -어서, -고서, 을수록, -은데_2, -으면_2, -어야_2, -어도_2, -으니까_2, -거든_1,` etc. Type C can be interpreted as the neutralized tense of the preceeding sentence and the absolute tense of the accompanying sentence. The conjunctive endings are `- 으러, - 으려고, -고자, -도록, -게,` etc. Type D can be described as the relative tense of the part of the preceeding sentence and the absolute tense of the accompanying sentence. The conjunctive endings are `-고, 도, -다가_3, -으면_3, -으면서_2, -거든_2, etc.
