Abstract

This paper seeks to present a new method to disambiguate the Korean homonyms by the semantic information, named sense relatedness, extracted from the co-occurrence words of the target word in the proper context of the large-scaled POS and sense tagged corpus. Each sense relatedness ratios list is made up of co-occurrence words denoting the semantic relatedness to every sense of a homonym. Sense relatedness of a word to a target word is measured by the frequencies with respect to each of the senses of the target word in the corpus. When a homonym needs disambiguation in a certain situation, a proper context is mobilized as a basis of linguistic information. The main source for WSD in this paper is the semantic information, which is referred to and calculated in the pertinent sense relatedness ratios list. In this test, a few words that may be representative of homonymous nouns and verbs were chosen to test the validity of the methodology of this paper. The result of the test turns out with the whole precision rate of 0.788, outperforming the rivalling researches of a similar line. Even if the comparison is limited to a couple of words, the consequences of the result are not to be little evaluated. Moreover, the method introduced in this paper was shown to have the merit of improving the precision rate by setting some other parametric variations further.
