퍼실리테이터의 비판적 성찰을 위한 이론과 실천의 만남

초록

비판적 성찰은 개인의 삶에서부터 사회공동체의 발전에까지 긍정적인 영향을 주어서 성인교육과 고등교육의 목적으로 중시된다. 학습자 편에서는 학습자의 비판적 성찰능력을 향상시키는 것이 학습의 최종 목표이자 퍼실리테이터의 중요한 역할이다. 최근에는 교실을 넘어 일터에서의 생산적 성찰로 주목 받고 있다. 그러나 정작 학습에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 퍼실리테이터의 비판적 성찰에 관한 이론적 고찰은 일천하다. 따라서 본 연구는 성인학습에서 퍼실리테이터의 역할과 비판적 성찰의 이론적 배경과 특성을 검토하여, 퍼실리테이터의 비판적 성찰을 강화하기 위한 실천방안을 제시하고자 착수되었다. 지금까지의 문헌 분석 결과, 퍼실리테이터는 조직학습을 이끄는 동시에 자신의 삶을 스스로 촉진하는 개인학습자이기도 하다. 이러한 퍼실리테이터의 양면성은 퍼실리테이터에게 두 가지 비판적 성찰을 요구한다. 내적으로 퍼실리테이터는 자신의 성장을 위해 스스로를 대상화하여 비판적으로 성찰하는 비판적 자기 성찰(주관적 재구성)이 요구된다. 외적으로 퍼실리테이터의 효과적 역할 수행을 위해 학습현장에서 학습자들이 비판적으로 성찰하는 존재가 될 수 있도록 촉진하는 역할이 요구된다. 실천면에서 퍼실리테이터로서 스스로를 퍼실리테이션 하는 비판적 자기성찰과 학습자의 비판적 성찰을 돕는 역할에 대해 새롭게 인식해야 할 것이다. 퍼실리테이터와 학습자가 만나는 학습현장을 비판적 성찰이 활발히 일어날 수 있는 장으로 만들어야 할 책임이 퍼실리테이터에게 있다. 끝으로 비판적 성찰이 개인수준에서 공동체까지 연결될 수 있도록 사회와 조직에서 비판적 성찰 풍토를 조성해야 할 것이다.

Abstract

Individuals in a modern society are required to equipe themselves with a critical thinking ability. This critical reflection helps them overcome the old way of thinking, knowledge and approach to the problems from new perspectives. Critical reflection, which can enhance the development of community and individual lives, is one of major goals in adult and higher education. Also, improvement of critical reflection is considered as both the final goal of learning and important function of facilitators. However, facilitators' critical reflection, which can be decisive on the outcome of learning, has not been given enough academic consideration. Thus, this article aims to study the importance of facilitators' critical reflection, to review the literature on the theories of critical reflection, and to present practical methods to encourage facilitators of the field to reflect critically. The previous literature has shown that critical reflection of facilitation can contribute to the educational achievement of learners and improvement of facilitators' own critical reflection. This ambiguity of facilitation requires facilitators to critically reflect on two things: First, a facilitator should reflect critically, which is to objectify himself for the improvement of himself. Second, a facilitator should encourage the learners to critically reflect on themselves, which is for the better outcome of education. A facilitator should be aware of both sides of critical reflection. It is also needed to provide a productive environment for the facilitation. Finally, in order for individual’s critical reflection to be connected with community and our society should make great efforts to build a climate conducive to the critical reflection.
