알코올 의존 환자에게 있어서 재발의 주요한 원인 중의 하나가 알코올 갈망이다. 따라서, 금주를 유지하는 데 있어서 갈망에 대한 평가가 중요하다고 할 수 있는데 흡연이 알코올 갈망에 영향을 미친다. 특히, 흡연에 대한 갈망과 니코틴 의존도는 알코올 갈망과 유의한 상관관계가 있었다. 이러한 결과는 알코올 의존 환자에게 있어서 흡연력에 대한 충분한 평가가 필요함을 시사한다. 하지만, 추후 알코올 갈망에 대해서 정서적인 상태, 스트레스 등을 포함하는 포괄적인 연구가 필요하다고 할 수 있겠다.
Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of smoking on alcohol cravings in alcoholdependent individuals. Methods: Study participants were 123 male smokers, 18 to 65 years of age, diagnosed with alcohol dependence. The study questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, alcohol drinking habits, smoking habits, the Korean Obsessive-Compulsive Drinking Scale (OCDS), the 12-item Tobacco Craving Questionnaire (12-item TCQ), and the Fagerstrőm Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND). We divided the subjects into high-OCDS score and low-OCDS score groups. Results: The high-OCDS group had a higher alcohol drinking frequency and greater average amount of alcohol consumed than did the low-OCDS group. Also, the high-OCDS group smoked a higher average number of cigarettes per day and had higher 12-item TCQ scores and FTND scores. Logistic regression analysis showed scores of the 12-item TCQ and the FTND were the most significant variables for predicting alcohol cravings. Conclusion: This study shows that alcohol cravings are significantly related to cigarette cravings and to severity of nicotine dependence.
