초록
This study examinesthe application of a craft-based (artisanal) material development framework in fashion design education. The framework, comprising four dimensions—structural innovation, technical experimentation, artistic expression, and practical functionality—was applied to a graduation design course to explore how artisanal processes processes enhanced creative’ creative and cognitive development. Five students producingtwenty works were selected for in-depth analysis, focusing on the use of experimental materials and handcrafted construction techniques. Through a structured 15-week program, students engaged in iterative stages of ideation, material experimentation, prototyping, and final realization. The process emphasized making as a form of thinking, where handcraft, digital fabrication, and reflective feedback were combined to foster material awareness and aesthetic sensitivity. The framework functioned not only as an evaluation criterion but also as a pedagogical methodology that supported students' exploration of hybrid forms connecting intuition, technology, and design reasoning. The findings indicate that craft-based learning fosters a holistic understanding of design by merging sensory experience, technical precision, and artistic interpretation. Material manipulation served as a cognitive tool for inquiry, leading to innovative and personally expressive outcomes. This study provides insights into the educational value of integrating traditional handcraft and contemporary digital methods to cultivate reflective, process-oriented, and creative competencies in fashion design education.
