Abstract
This study developed a satellite-based ground monitoring system capable of effectively detecting ground deformation occurring during power transmission tunnel construction and identifying early precursors of potential hazards. In particular, satellite-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, which are less affected by diurnal or meteorological conditions, were employed to overcome the spatial and operational limitations of conventional point-based displacement monitoring instrumentation. The system incorporates InSAR analysis using Sentinel-1 radar imagery and provides analysis results through a web-based visualization, thereby enhancing user accessibility and operational convenience. The developed system was applied to a power transmission tunnel construction site in Cheongju, and the satellite-based InSAR analysis exhibited a deformation trend comparable to that of ground settlement measurements, confirming its reliability and field applicability. In addition, the automated data acquisition, analysis, risk assessment, and GIS-based visualization functions suggest the potential applicability of the system for establishing a proactive risk prediction and response framework for various power infrastructure facilities. The developed system is expected to be further extended to various types of power infrastructure, including substations, transmission towers, and underground distribution facilities. Moreover, integration with diverse satellite datasets and AI-based analysis is anticipated to enhance both the real-time capability and accuracy of the system.
