Abstract
This study proposes a low-power adaptive headlamp system that improves energy efficiency by controlling light distribution based on surroundingbrightness during vehicle operation. Conventional adaptive headlamps can adjust light distribution in response to oncoming vehicles but are not effectively designed to handle environments where sufficient brightness is provided by streetlight at night. In such conditions, driving with the headlamps on may result in unnecessarily high illuminance due to overlapping light, leading to energy waste. To address this issue, the beam pattern of the headlamp was controlled in areas where the illumination from streetlight and headlamps overlapped. Illuminance simulations were conducted to analyze these overlapping regions, the headlamp light distribution was adjusted accordingly, and the results were compared to conventionalilluminance distributions. The proposed method of controlling headlamp light distribution in response to ambient brightness effectively reduces excessive illuminance and improves energy efficiency.
