Objectives: Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and emotional instability, making it challenging to manage with traditional single-treatment approaches. Conventional medication-based treatments often fail to provide lasting relief and enhance quality of life. This study compares the Integrative Medicine Clinical Pathway (IMCP) to the Standard Clinical Pathway (CP) in terms of pain management and quality of life improvement for fibromyalgia patients. Methods: This single-blind trial involved 26 participants with fibromyalgia, who were randomly assigned to either the CP group (n=13) or the IMCP group (n=13) for a duration of 8 weeks. The IMCP included a combination of acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, counseling, meditation, and yoga. Outcomes were assessed through various measures: pain (Widespread Pain Index [WPI], Symptom Severity Scale [SSS], Numeric Pain Rating Scale [NPRS]), quality of life (EQ-5D, EQ-VAS), emotional state (Coping with Emotions Scale Inventory [CESI]), and sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index [PSQI]). Results: Participants in the IMCP group demonstrated significant improvements in pain reduction (as measured by SSS and NPRS), quality of life (EQ-5D and EQ-VAS), and emotional stability (CESI) compared to the CP group (p<0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were observed in pain areas (WPI) or sleep quality (PSQI). Conclusions: IMCP effectively reduced pain and enhanced the quality of life for fibromyalgia patients, suggesting its potential as a complementary approach alongside standard treatments. Further large-scale studies and long-term follow-up are needed to confirm these findings.
