기업 전반의 비즈니스에 대한 경쟁력을 높이기 위하여 전 부문에서 업무 품질의 중요성을 인식하고, 기회 손실을 찾아 개선하여 기업의 성과로 연결시키려는 노력이 중시되고 있다. 기업들은 경쟁력 강화차원에서 Q-COST(Quality Cost) 또는 COPQ(Cost of Poor Quality)에 대한 관심이 점점 증가하고 있지만, Q-COST와 COPQ에 대한 정의가 불명확하여 기업 내에서 추진자들의 개념에 혼란을 초래하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이론적 내용과 함께 국내 2개 회사의 추진사례를 분석한 결과 COPQ는 기존 Q-COST의 확대개념으로써 회사 전체에 적용되어 광범위한 요소들을 다루어야 한다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 COPQ의 개념을 도입한 2개 회사 모두 COPQ가 총 매출액의 20% 정도를 차지하고 있으며, 제조부문보다도 비제조부문에서 더 많은 비용이 발생되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
In order to increase the competitiveness of entire businesses, companies focus on trying to recognize the importance of management quality; to find and improve opportunity cost related to quality; to improve a firm’s performance. On the view of strengthening their competitiveness, many companies are increasingly getting concerned with the Q-COST(Quality Cost) or COPQ(Cost of Poor Quality). However, it is difficult to distinguish Q-COST from COPQ for many industrial practitioners because of the unclear definitions of Q-COST and COPQ. In this research, we analyzed two cases against a theoretical background of quality cost. As a result, we recognized COPQ to be an extended concept of Q-COST. Also, COPQ accounted for 20% of total sales in both companies, and the cost occurring in non-manufacturing areas was found to be much greater than in manufacturing areas.
