우리시대에 맞는 올림피즘의 재조명 작업은 미래의 올림픽운동의 방향과 비전설정을 위하여 필수적이다. 본 연구의 목적은 올림픽 운동과 올림픽교육의 기본이념이라고 할 수 있는 올림피즘의 의미를 역사적, 철학적, 교육적 및 현실적 관점에서 재조명하여 21세기의 새로운 시대적 및 현실적 상황에 반영될 수 있는 올림피즘의 비전과 가치들을 제시하는 것이었다. 고대로부터 근대에 이르기까지 올림피즘을 근간으로 한 올림픽 운동과 올림픽 교육의 의미와 맥락을 재조명하기 위한 작업으로서 Coubertin의 올림피즘 관련 문헌들과 IOC 발간 자료들이 올림픽운동과 올림픽교육의 측면에서 비판적으로 고찰되었다. 21세기 사회운동으로서 재조명된 올림픽 운동이 지향해야 비전과 방향은 올림피즘의 보편적인 삶의 철학을 모든 사람들의 생활철학으로 삼도록 스포츠를 교육적․문화적 차원으로 확산시켜나가는 스포츠 교육시민운동이 되어야 한다. 결과적으로 올림피즘을 근간으로 하는 올림픽교육과 올립픽운동은 하나의 운동체적 체계의 속성을 갖게 되며, 학교 및 사회의 교육운동체의 근간으로서 그것은 다음과 같은 실천적 비전을 기반으로서 전개될 수 있을 것이다. 첫째, 올림픽운동은 보다 건강하고 잘 사는 사회를 지향하는 사회･문화･시민운동으로서 승화되어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 올림픽운동은 성숙된 시민사회가 필요로 하는 페어플레이정신의 확산운동으로서 전개되어야 할 것이다. 셋째, 올림픽운동은 인간성회복을 실천하는 최고의 교육적 가치실현 운동이 되어야 하며 이 같은 비전의 구체적인 실천사항들이 교육현장과 사회에서 작동되어야 할 것이다. 넷째, 올림픽운동은 인간의 보편적 인본성과 문화적 잠재력을 창조적으로 구현하는 인류의 문화 창달운동으로서 전개되어야 할 것이다. 다섯째, 올림피즘은 삶의 길을 도덕적으로 가름하는 실천의 생활지표이며 이것을 근간으로 하는 올림픽운동은 도덕적 재무장운동으로 승화되어야 할 것이다. 여섯째, 올림피즘을 근간으로 하는 올림픽운동은 인간과 자연이 상생하는 인간-환경 구축운동으로서 전개되어야 할 것이다. 일곱째, 올림픽운동은 개인과 사회의 발전을 이끌어갈 수 있는 올림피즘의 실천운동으로서 Sport for All 운동의 형태로 전개되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study was to trace and to illuminate the meaning of Olympism, a crutial concepte, in terms of historical, philosophical and educational aspects in order to propose the new dimension of vision and values for Olympism. In doing this, the literatures and various sources regarding Coubertin and IOC publications of Olympism reviewed critically. The following things were proposed as the result of this study. The Olympic Movement becomes a sport․education movement which means all people would regard it as a life philosophy. First of all, Olympic Movement will be upgraded as the social-cultural based movement for citizen toward healthy and well-being society. Second, it would be promoted as the fair-play movement for making good society. Third, it should be an educational value movement for actualizing one's humanity. Fourth, it has to became a cultural movement for realizing the one's creativity and potential. Fifth, it should be developed as the ethical movement for evaluating one's life standard. Sixth, it would be intended a movement for cooperating human being and natural environment. Last, it would be developed as the Sport for All movement for guiding one's and society development.
