Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of a fairy tale-based energy education program on energy literacy of 6th grade elementary school students. The energy education program based on fairy tales was used 4E learning strategies such as 'empathize', 'explore', 'expand' and 'establish'. The energy textbook applied to the study was developed a cartoon composed of well-known fairy tales. The energy textbook has five themes: renewable energy, solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric energy and an energy-independent village. Before and after the study participation, the energy literacy test was conducted and the paired t-test was verified. The results of the study are as follows, First, the mean of post-examination of energy literacy totals was statistically higher than that of pre-examination (t=-6.254, p=0.000). Second, the mean of the cognitive, affective, and behavioral areas of energy-literacy were statistically significantly higher than pre-examination. However, there were differences between each of the three areas. Third, elementary school students preferred an energy textbook composed with fun and understandable. Fourth, elementary school students wanted a textbook that could summarize what they had learned about energy, and someone said they needed a detailed explanation.
