Abstract
Recently, many military theorists tried to develop the best theories of modern warfare in order to adapt to the changes in Information Age and take advantage the information technology. Among those theories, Effects- Based Operations(EBO), Rapid Decisive Operations(RDO), Network-Centric Warfare(NCW) stand out. They are considered to be key and important theories for modern warfare and being adopt by militaries in many countries. In addition to those, more theories, including Swarming, The Fourth Generation Warfare(4GW), Distributive Operations(DO), have been discussed and tried to complement or compete with key theories mentioned above. However, these all theories seem to have their strengths and weakness respectively. EBO can be understood as an efficiency-oriented approach rather than way of conduct of war. RDO fails to demonstrate its distinctive characteristics compared to other theories despite U.S. JFCOM's efforts. Though NCW seems to be highly recognized nowadays, it does not provide the clear direction on the conduct of modern warfare and tends to reduce it scope to Net-Centric Environment(NCE). Instead of jumping to the certain theory, we need more research and prudence before deciding the best theory for modern warfare. Therefore, in order to win the modern war and to prepare well for it, we need to clearly understand the basic concept, strength and weakness of all theories of modern warfare and try to integrate the strengths and complement the weaknesses of those theories. Before moving to that stage, we need to study hard and discuss passionately on the correct concept of those theories.
