서비스러닝 참여 대학생의 노인이미지 변화에 관한 포토보이스 연구

본 논문은 서비스러닝의 교육의 일환으로 지역사회 노인서비스를 진행한 대학생들을대상으로 노인에 대한 인식이 어떻게 변화했는지를 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해2022년도 1학기 국내 Y대학교의 서비스러닝 수강생 중 연구 참여 동의를 얻은 19명을대상으로 노인 이미지에 대한 포토보이스 참여연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 4개의 대주제와 15개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 지역사회 서비스에 참여하기 전 노인은 소통하기도 어렵고 다 쓰고 남겨진 어둡고 쓸쓸한 존재로서 도움이 필요한 ‘부정과 동정의 존재’였다. 그러나, 지역사회 서비스에 참여함으로써 새로운 경험, 새로운 인식, 새로운 관점을 형성하게 되고, 노인과의 ‘관계를 통해 성찰하고 배워’나갈 수 있다. 이러한 서비스러닝은 노인을 경험과 연륜이 쌓인 지혜로운 존재, 강한 생명력과 든든한 존재, 여전히 활기찬 인생을 살고 있고 사회에 도움이 되고 싶어하는 따뜻하고 ‘포용적 존재로 재탄생’시켰다. 서비스러닝 경험을 통해 학생들은 노인들을 위한 새로운 역할을 찾아내고지속적인 관심과 소통을 통해 노인을 여전히 하나의 사회구성원으로 ‘우리 안에 포함하는 것’이 실천의 모습이라고 밝혔다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 지역사회 노인에 대한 서비스러닝 교육의 의의와 인식개선을 위한 제언을 하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine how the perception of the elderly has changed for college students who conducted community elderly services as part of service learning. To this end, a photo-voice participation study on the image of the elderly was conducted on 19 service learning students at Y University in Korea in the first semester of 2022. As a result of the study, four major themes and 15 sub-topics were derived. Before participating in community services, the elderly were "the existence of negativeness and sympathy" who needed help as a dark and lonely being that was difficult to communicate and left behind. However, by participating in community services, new experiences, new perceptions, and new perspectives can be formed, and ‘reflect and learn’ with the elderly. This service learning has reborn the elderly as a wise being with experience and experience, a strong vitality and strong presence, a warm and "inclusive being" who still lives a vibrant life and wants to help society. Through the service learning experience, students found new roles for the elderly and said that it is still a practice to include the elderly as a member of society through continuous interest and communication
