노인의 은퇴 후 삶의 적응에 대한 Glaser의 근거이론적 접근

초록

최근 한국사회의 은퇴연령이 빨라지고 있음에도 불구하고, 한국노인의 실질적인 은퇴시기는 70대 이후로 점점 늦어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 은퇴 후 일 경험이 있는 노인의 은퇴 후 삶의 적응과정을 이해하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 은퇴 후에도 일 경험이 있는 65세 이상 남녀노인 18명을 대상으로 Glaser 근거이론을 통해서 은퇴한 노인의 삶의 적응과정을탐색하였다. 자료수집은 지속적 비교를 통한 이론적 표집을 통해 이루어졌고, 자료수집을 위한 심층면담은 2013년 10월 28일부터 2015년 8월7일까지 실시되었다. 분석결과, 은퇴노인의 은퇴 후 삶의 적응은 수용하기 힘든 일 역할상실, 다시 찾은 내 삶, 시간과 자유의 여유, 사회관계망의 변화, 초라해진 나, 끝나지 않은 삶의 굴레들, 건강을 관리하면서 일을 준비함, 지지와 난관, 다시 일 세계로 진입 및 노년기 일의 역할 수용의 10개의 주제와 현실을 수용하고 노후 활동을 통해 자신의 존재감을 확인해가는 과정이라는 핵심범주가 탐색되었다. 노인의 은퇴 후 적응과정은 부인단계, 무념쾌락단계, 현실인식단계,역할창출단계, 역할수용단계로 진행되었고, 일-여가 양립형, 일 중심형, 여가탐닉형, 생계유지형 및 안분지족형의 5가지 은퇴적응유형을 보였다. 따라서 본 연구는 은퇴노인에게 노년기일은 상실된 역할을 회복시켜주고, 새로운 역할을 창출해주는 기능을 하며, 자신의 존재감을 확인시켜주는 상징적 의미를 지닌다는 것을 시사한다.

Abstract

Recently, despite the retirement age of Korean society is going down, the actual retirement period of Korean elderly is extended to over 70s. The purpose of this research was to find the adaptation process related to retirement for elderly. 18 elderly retirees over 65 years age, who had work experience after retirement were recruited by theoretical sampling. The data were collected through in depth interview from October 28, 2013 to August 7, 2015. Collected data were analyzed through the grounded theory approach of Glaser(2014).Results showed that the themes of retirement adaptation for the elderly were 10 categories of unacceptable retirement(loss of work role), renewal of lives, shrinking social network, insignificant self, unfinished bondages of life, managing health and preparing for work, support systems and hardships, reentry to work, and work-role acceptancein later life. And ‘awakening reality and verifying one's existence through activity aging’ was emerged as a core category. It was found that the adaptation process related to retirement for the elderly could be divided by denial period, freedom from distractionand pleasure period, awareness of reality period, role recreation period, and role acceptance period, and had five types of work-leisure balance, work-oriented, leisure-oriented, maintenance of livelihood, and happiness lying in contentment. This finding suggested that the work of the elderly had its symbolic meaning such as recovering the loss of role of retired elderly, creating a new role, and confirming one's existence.
