사회적 지원 및 성취상황에서의 부모태도가 청소년의 우울과 불안에 미치는 영향

본 연구에서는 자녀의 동기형성에 영향을 미치는 성취상황에서의 부모태도를 지원방식과 신중방식으로 구분하고, 이들 부모태도와 청소년의 우울 및 불안간의 관계를 확인하고자 하였다. 더 나아가 부모태도와 청소년의 우울 및 불안간의 관계에서 사회적 지원이 조절변인의 역할을 하는지에 대해서도 확인하여, 부모태도가 청소년의 우울 및 불안에 영향을 미치는 과정을 심층적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 부모태도 지원방식은 우울 및 불안과 유의한 부적 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 부모태도 신중방식은 우울과는 유의한 정적 관계가 있었으나 불안과는 유의한 관계가 없었다. 둘째, 부모태도 지원방식 및 신중방식과 사회적 지원간의 관계에서, 부모태도 지원방식은 사회적 지원과 유의한 정적 관계가 있었으나, 부모태도 신중방식은 유의한 관계가 없었다. 셋째, 부모태도 지원방식 및 신중방식과 우울 및 불안 간의 관계에서 사회적 지원의 조절변인의 역할을 하는지에 대한 분석을 수행하였다. 우선 부모태도 지원방식과 우울 및 불안 간의 관계에서 사회적 지원의 조절변인의 효과는 발견되지 않았다. 그러나 부모태도 신중방식과 우울 및 불안 간의 관계에서는 사회적 지원이 조절변인의 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 성취상황에서 부모태도 지원방식이 신중방식보다는 개인의 긍정적인 적응과 밀접한 관련이 있음을 보여줌과 동시에, 부모태도 신중방식의 효과는 사회적 지원에 따라 달라질 수 있음을 보여주는 것으로 성취상황에서 부모가 자녀를 어떠한 방식으로 동기화해야 하는 가에 대한 안내를 제공한다. 주요어 : 부모태도(지원방식, 신중방식), 사회적 지원, 우울, 불안
Abstract
Based on Higgins’ classification scheme for the modes of parent-child interaction (1989), the present study distinguished parents’ two different interacting modes-bolstering and prudent modes-in achievement settings, and investigated how these two distinct modes affect adolescents’ depression and anxiety. Furthermore, this study tried to explore the psychological processes underlying the relations of parents’ interacting modes to adolescents’ depression and anxiety by examining if social support would moderate the effects of parents’ modes on students’ depression and anxiety. The major results are as follows. First, parents’ bolstering mode was negatively associated with adolescents’ depression and anxiety, whereas parents’ prudent mode was positively correlated with depression but it was not significantly related to anxiety. Second, parents' bolstering mode was positively related to adolescents' perceived social support, but parents' prudent mode was unrelated to social support. Third, the hierarchical regression analyses revealed that the relations of parents’ prudent mode to adolescents’depression and anxiety were moderated by social support, while no significant interactions were observed between social support and parents’ bolstering mode. The findings may provide parents with useful insight as to how they motivate their children in achievement settings by showing that parents' interacting modes have different effects on adolescents' depression and anxiety and that the effects of parents' prudent mode differ as a function of adolescents' perceived social support.
