Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships among attachment, ego-resilience, and growth following romantic breakups mediated through deliberate rumination and problem-focused coping of the college students who experienced romantic berekups. The research model was partial mediation model in which anxiety attachment, avoidance attachment, and ego-resilience have direct effects and also have indirect effects mediated through deliberate rumination and problem-focused coping on growth following romantic breakups. The competition model was fully mediation model in which anxiety attachment, avoidance attachment, and ego-resilience have direct effects through deliberate rumination and problem-focused coping on growth following romantic breakups. The research model was confirmed as a final model. The structural relationships among the variables, the gender differences and breakups periods differences were analysed with the final model. The main results of the study were as follows: (a) It was found that anxiety attachment has indirect effect on growth following romantic breakups through deliberate rumination and deliberate rumination, problem-focused coping in turn. And It was found that avoidance attachment has only direct effect on growth following romantic breakups, and ego-resilience has indirect effect on growth following romantic breakups mediated through the order deliberate rumination and problem-focused coping.; (b) It was found that there were no significant gender differences in the structural weights while there were significant differences between breakups periods in the structural weights of anxiety attachment and problem-focused coping strategy, ego-resilience and problem-focused coping. These results show that college counselors need to explore their internal factors and cognitive processes, and breakups periods for their growth following romantic breakups.
