Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether affective lability affects the loss of eating control, and the positive urgency and negative urgency which are two sub-dimensions of emotional urgency mediate the relationship between affective lability and the loss of eating control. For this, a total of 450 adults participated in the survey which included the measures of emotional lability, negative urgency and positive urgency, and loss of control related to eating. The results of data analysis revealed that affective lability was directly associated with high levels of loss of eating control and indirectly affected the loss of eating control through increased negative urgency. In contrast, although affective lability was related to increasing the positive urgency, positive urgency was found to decrease loss of eating control. Based on those results, we discussed the differences and causes between negative urgency and positive urgency, implications for counseling, limitations of the study, and suggestions for future research.
