20대 남성 초심상담자가 경험하는 심리적 어려움에 대한 현상학적 연구

초록

본 연구의 목적은 상담자 직업군에서 소수자로 종사하는 20대 남성 초심상담자가 경험하는 심리적 어려움을 탐색하는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 20대 남성 초심상담자 7명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 시행하였고, 수집된 자료는 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구 방법에 따라 분석하였다. 연구 결과 20대 남성 초심상담자가 경험하는 심리적 어려움으로 ‘상담 장면에서 남성 상담자로서 경험하는 어려움’, ‘상담자 직업군에서 소수의 남성 상담자로서의 존재’, ‘취업전선에서의 불이익’, ‘20대 초심상담자로서 직면하는 어려움’의 4개의 구성요소와 10개의 하위구성요소가 도출되었다. 심리적 어려움에 대한 대처방식으로는 ‘상담자로서의 성찰’, ‘남성 상담자로서의 정체감 확립’, ‘상담자로서의 전문성 증진’, ‘외부 자원의 활용’으로 4개의 구성요소와 10개의 하위구성요소가 도출되었다. 아울러, 현상학적 연구 방법에 따라 본 연구에서는 상황적 구조 진술뿐만 아니라 일반적 구조 진술을 기술하여 20대 남성 초심상담자가 경험하는 심리적 어려움의 본질과 이에 대한 대처방식의 구조를 제시하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 연구의 의의, 제한점 및 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the coping behaviors and psychological difficulties experienced by male novice counselors in their 20s who are minority workers in the counseling field. To do this, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven male novice counselors in their 20s to examine their psychological difficulties and the ways to cope with them. The data collected by in-depth interviews were analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological method. As a result, four components, which include ‘Discomfort experienced as a male counselor’, ‘Existence as minority counselors’, ‘Disadvantage in employment’, and ‘Difficulties faced as a 20’s novice counselor’, and 10 sub-components were derived as the psychological difficulties. In addition, four components, which include ‘Self reflection as a counselor’, ‘Establishing a sense of identity as a male counselor’, Enhancing expertise as a counselor’ and ‘Utilization of external resources’, and eight 10 sub-components were derived as the coping behaviors for the psychological difficulties. In addition, according to the phenomenological research method, the study described not only situational structure statements but also general structural statements to present the nature of psychological difficulties experienced by male novice counselors and structure of coping methods. Based on the study results, the significance and limitations of the studyand suggestions for future studies were presented.
