Abstract
Although DAF technology was first installed at Hoengseung in Korea at the end of 2003 for production of 200,000 m3/day of raw water for Wonju and Hoengseung, the fundamental characteristics of the row water including phytoplankton, turbidity has not been fully investigated. In this study, a newly developed submersible fluorescence probe for in situ phytoplankton quantification (excitation 410, 525, 570, 590, and 610 nm, emission 685 nm) has been used. This configuration allows the in vivo, in situ determination of chlorophyll-a by measuring the fluorescence due to the pigments. In field work the fluorometer, data logging and positioning equipment were placed aboard a manageable boat which navigated following a scheme of regularly spaced crossings. In summer season Coelastrum and Microcystis were dominant species and distributed at surface about 7 m thick from upper stream to down stream in reservoir. In other season diatom and cryptophyta dominated and distributed in the depth of 5~10 m. The annual variation of chlorophyll-a concentration was varied between 3.6 and 20.1 mg/m3 range at near the intake-tower position. 2D maps of important phytoplankton groups like cyanobacteria, diatoms, green algae, and cryptophytes in reservoir Hoengseung were obtained by submersible fluorescence prob
