이 논문을 통해 우리는 ‘갈망’과 관련한 다양한 용어들(Sehnsucht, Joy, longing, desire)을 명확하게 규명한 후 이 개념이 C. S. 루이스의 작품과 사상 속에서 어떻게 반영되어 있는지를 고찰한다. 우선 루이스의 ‘갈망’ 사상이 형성된 과정을 상세히 검토하고, 이어서 그 ‘갈망’이 자연과 초자연, 지상의 실존과 천국의 신비 사이에 만남의 성격을 지님을 지적한다. 이어서 ‘갈망’이 이교 신화와 현대의 세속 문학 속에서 어떻게 반영이 되어 있는지에 대해 분석하고, 마지막으로 그리스도인의 천국에 대한 소망 속에 내재해 있는 ‘갈망’의 의미에 대해 성찰한다. 결론적으로 우리는 루이스의 ‘갈망’ 사상이 지닌 장점과 현대적 의의에 대해 지적한다.
Abstract
In this paper, we identify various terms (“Sehnsucht,” “longing,” “desire”) related to “Joy” and examine how their concepts are reflected in the works and thoughts of C. S. Lewis. First, the process through which Lewis's idea of Joy was formed is examined in detail. Then, the idea that Joy has the nature of an encounter between nature and supernatural, an encounter between the world’s existence and the mystery of Heaven. Second, how Joy is reflected in pagan mythology and modern secular literature is analyzed. Finally, this paper reflects on the meaning of Joy inherent in Christians' desire for Heaven. Therefore, we identify the advantages and modern significance of Lewis's idea of Joy.
