Abstract

The study is an analysis of the picture books of “Umma Cathury” and the animation “Mother Cartury” in the context of the effects of the local cultural era on children’s literature. Some special and universal features present in children’s literature when coupled with the inherently complex nature of the piece of literature can be a source of development of local cultural content. Distinctiveness in literature may arise when discrimination and scarcity are enhanced. However, such enhancements should be judicious such that the text does not lose its universality. This will ensure that the children’s literature will not lose its general theme. One of the main features of children’s literature is the simple narrative structure. Local communities looking to develop local cultural content benefit from the simple narrative structure of children’s literature. While specificity and universality lead to synthesis, local cultural content and local governments can create positive circulation. Positive circulation is the extension of cultural contents originating from children’s literature continuing to create new artistic and commercial value. Positive circulation helps in widening the intellectual standard of Children’s literature and therefore the cultural base of society as a whole becomes richer.
