Abstract
In this paper, we propose an adaptive learnable image filtering model for day and night to improve theperformance of nighttime object detection. In a nighttime environment, it is difficult to distinguish the color andfeatures of objects due to low illumination. Accordingly, existing object detection models often fail to detectobjects. To solve this problem, we propose an object detection model that can convert the gamma filter andsharpening filter, which are classical image filters with fixed filter values, into learnable filters. In particular, theproposed learnable filtering has the advantage of being adaptive for day and night and can be easily combinedwith general object detection models. Through experiments, we verify the improved performance of objectdetection in nighttime environments by applying the proposed illumination-aware learnable filtering model tosingle and multispectral object detection models.
