Abstract
In this article, after analyzing the contents of the 『Hunmongchup(訓蒙帖)』, a record of Seodang, which was operated by Noh Sang-jik, and the 『Ja-am Diary(紫巖日錄)』(1899.3~1901.12), a diary of Noh Sang-jik, he confirmed the aspect of Noh Sang-jik as an educator. Noh Sang-jik(盧相稷, 1855~1931) is a representative Confucian scholar in South Gyeongsang Province, who was active from the end of the 19th century to the early 20th century. He experienced ruin, chose to seek asylum as a result, and even signed a Paris book. Except for these characteristic aspects, he has been in education for the longest time. Noh Sang-jik spent nearly 50 years in education, and his influence in the region must have been great, considering that his literary life reached about 807. That is why the aspect of Noh Sang-jik as an educator must be identified. He began teaching in 1883, and five years later, in 1888, he compiled the 『Hunmongchop』, and about 10 years later, in 1899, he began to keep a diary called 『Ja-am Diary』. The educational orientation of the 『Hunmongchop』 was applied intactly in the 『Ja-am Diary』. Noh Sang-jik tried to create intellectuals who learned traditional knowledge and practiced it concretely in everyday life. In other words, an individual's identity is defined in the dynasty, study, and family, and many everyday norms that are evaluated as politeness(禮) and honor(敬) are practiced. In this way, he tried to create a community that shared the direction of thought. He memorized and discussed excerpts from the text of Neo-Confucianism, checked them regularly, and let them teach and practice how to write poetry. As the students stayed together, they monitored each other's learning and life, kept detailed records, and gave prizes and punishments. The 『Hunmongchop』 and the 『Ja-am Diary』 Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905 covered in this article are records before experiencing historical events such as the Eulsa Protectorate of Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905. Despite the distance of about 10 years between the two records, it was confirmed that the educational orientation of the 『Hunmongchop』 was applied in the 『Ja-am Diary』. It is highly likely that similar contents were consistently carried out in the early educational activities of Noh Sang-jik. In about 50 years of educational activities, the contents of the historical reality experienced by him after the 『Hunmongchop』 and the 『Ja-am Diary』 should also be revealed.
