선어말어미 통합순서 변화의 저지(沮止) 요인 －다른 선어말어미와의 결합을 중심으로－

Abstract

This paper is intented to examine that the change of syntagmatic order of korean prefinal endings could be impeded by the combination with other prefinal endings and to seek possible causes of the obstruction. First of all, it appears that the change of syntagmatic order of prefinal endings tends to be restricted by '-əs-' when the single element affect the change. In case of combination of '-də-' with '-si-' or '-kəX' with '-si-', the changes of [də+si] > [si+də] or [kə+si+X] > [si+kəX] was retarded until the 18th century then started the alteration. It is presumed because of the combining restriction in '-əs-' resulting from the original structure '-ə#is-' that '-əs-' cannot be combined with '-si-' still remains after the grammatization process to '-əs-'. It was not until the 18th century when the syntagmatic change in '-sʌp-' did happen under the circumstance of '-sʌp-, -də-, -si-' and '-sʌp-, -kə-, -si-,'combined with two elements showing syntagmatic change, '-sʌp-' and '-də-' as well as '-sʌp-' and '-kə-'. It seems because the change of syntagmastic order of '-də-' or '-kə-' which happens earlier than that of '-sʌp-' blocks the later change of '-sʌp-' so that the change of syntagmatic order of '-sʌp-' became influential after '-də-' or '-kə-' completely went through the same change. As we discuss the change of syntagmatic order of prefinal endings varies depending on the conditions, this paper is expected to demonstrate that combination with other prefinal endings can also affect the tempo of the alteration.
