초록

리스트의 H작품과 편곡의 주제별 목록H(Thematisches Verzeichniss der Werke, Bearbeitungen und Transcriptionen, 1877년 개정)은 작곡가 자신이 그의 편곡 및 재작업을 분류하고 그것과 관련된 다양한 용어들을 사용한 점에서 주목할 자료이다.

Abstract

Liszt’s Thematisches Verzeichniss der Werke, Bearbeitungen und Transcriptionen (1877) draws our attention to the terms he himself designated for classifying his transcriptions and reworkings. Although it is an incomplete form of catalogue in the modern sense, the terms raise several intriguing issues: how each term helped Liszt to highlight his distinctive reworking method, what he attempted to communicate with his audience through such diverse terms, and how listeners and critics adjusted their expectations of those terms to reconcile the transcription with the original. This article investigates various terms delineated in the catalogue, including Bearbeitung, arrangement, transcription, paraphrase, fantasy, and Partitions de Piano, considering the ways in which audiences and critics attributed creative meanings to his reworking associated with each term. What emerges, then, is Liszt’s transcriptions not only as a social phenomenon shared by composers and audience alike, but also as independent compositions rather than a derivative form of the original.
