대형 도자 조형물 제작을 위한 전기가마 개발 연구- 전기가마 축조와 소성을 중심으로 -

Abstract

Kilns have played an important role in bringing about quantitative and qualitative changes in vessels in keeping with periodical changes and heightened expectations about intended products. Modern-day ceramics continue to demand a challenge to the limitations of immaculacy and hardness in vessels according to the aims of products; and the spheres of ceramics are being expanded together with environmental art. In this context, the necessity of improvement in equipment and technology for the production of large ceramic work is on the rise. Kilns have varied with intended contents of production. In the case of large ceramicsculptures, since their size is big, a prerequisite for decreasing damage to work is to produce them with the greatest possible reduction of temperature variations and the maintenance of a constant temperature within a kiln. It was found that the best method for fulfilling such a prerequisite and for overcoming personal and physical limitations is the electrically controlled kiln. Aiming to overcome the domestic reality that there is no kiln to produce work taller than 2m, this study looked into the fabrication of a large electrical kiln for the production of large ceramic sculptures, and made trial products with the kiln, succeeding in heightening their utilization as public sculptures. The basic design of the electrical kiln capable of producing large ceramic sculptures was worked out, and decrease in internal variations between the upper and lower temperature reduced unequal conditions that might have effects on large sculptures, which led to safe work production without breakage. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the development of basic technology for the production of ceramic sculptures by overcoming limitations in size for the area of ceramics through research on the manufacture of kilns for the production of large ceramic sculptures.
