디스플레이 장치를 사용한 작품은 매체의 노후화 또는 생산 중단으로 인해 보존의 필요성이 요구되고 있다. 하지만 기존 매체의 개조 및 변경과 같은 비가역적인 보존처리 방법이포함될 수 있어 작품의 원본성과 동일성유지권이 침해될 수 있다. 따라서 단종된 CRT를 활용한작품을 LCD로 대체하는 가능성을 확인하기 위한 이론적 배경과 색 재현 요소 비교 연구를진행하여 중장기 보존의 기초자료를 마련하고자 하였다. 비디오 아트는 비디오 기술을 예술적표현 매체로 하는 현대 예술 형식으로 기술 의존성을 가진다. 이에 사용된 매체의 변환이 적절한지와 관계되어 보존과정에서 더해진 재료는 ‘재료적인 보존’의 측면에서 원본성을 유지하는역할을 하고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이후 CRT와 LCD의 색 특성을 비교하였고, 실험결과, 분광분포도, 색도 변화 차이, 배경 의존성, 시간 안정성 측정 결과를 통해 LCD의 휘도와 색도 안정성이 상대적으로 우수함을 확인하여 대체 적용 가능성을 확인 할 수 있었다.
Abstract
Artworks using display devices require conservation treatment due to aging ordiscontinuation of media. However, irreversible conservation treatment methods such as modificationand change of existing media may be included, which may infringe on the right to secure the originalityand maintain the identity of the work. Accordingly, a comparative study on the theoretical backgroundand color reproduction elements was conducted to provide basic data for mid to long-term conservationto confirm the possibility of replacing works using discontinued CRT with LCD. Video art is a modernart form that uses video technology as an artistic expression medium and has technology dependence. Therefore, as the conversion of the used medium is appropriate, the materials added in the conservationprocess are seen as part of securing the originality in terms of ‘material conservation’. An experimentwas conducted to compare the color characteristics of CRT and LCD. As a result of the experiment,it was confirmed that the luminance and chromaticity stability of LCD was relatively excellent throughthe measurement results of spectral distribution, chromatic change difference, background dependence,and time stability, confirming the possibility of alternative application.
