Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the selection and perception of teachers who participated in the selection process of science authorized textbooks. These textbooks have been developed after the introduction of the 2022 revised curriculum and used in the third and fourth grades in 2025. Toward this end, the researchers analyzed the results of textbook selection for 100 elementary schools located in Gyeonggi-do, administered a survey on 43 teachers at seven elementary schools in five local education offices, and conducted in-depth interviews with teachers, who played a key role in the selection process. The result demonstrated that 42 out of 100 schools selected A science textbooks, and the selection rate of the top two science textbooks was very high (64.0%). 23 (23.0%) schools selected publishers equally. Second, 42 out of 43 teachers (97.7%) responded that they had used platform A, which indicates a very high selection rate, while 35 teachers (81.4%) reported that using different platforms for each subject was difficult. Third, the result of in-depth interviews demonstrated that a platform that provides numerous teaching and learning materials was considered important in the selection process, while a number of teachers demand and prefer to align with one publisher in the selection process of major subjects to address inefficiencies or issues that emerge when using different platforms for each subject. Lastly, this study poses implications for the development of science authorized textbooks.
