Abstract

With the Gandhara sculptures excavated from Sikri site, I have emphasized my subject of study on finding the characteristics of the formation of iconography and style, and considering the significance of how large the relics from the Sikri takes role in the Gandhara Arts. All the relics excavated from Sikri site are mainly preserved at the Lahore museum and the Chandigarh Museum located at Punjab, India. Inferred from the (table.1), the excavated relics are statues of Buddha, Bodhisattva, the fasting Buddha, the relief carved thirteen screens of Buddhist scriptures composed on the round base of the Stupa, fragments from various sculptures, images of god, and other broken pieces like decorative patterns. Especially, the relief carved thirteen screens of Buddhist scriptures is very important work of art, and it plays a significant role for the huge number of fragments on Buddhist scriptures collected in museums, in figuring out their standards of composition, and the sequences of arrangement. In addition, it is precious piece in studying the features of formation and expression of the relief on Buddhist scriptures composed on the bases of both votive and main stupas, shown from some instances of votive stupas. Also, it has been recognized that the remainders of stupa excavated Tareli, surrounding historical site, has an important influence on restoration of Sikri stupa to the original state. As a result, I will intend to study about the excavated relics from the surrounding sites, Tareli, Jamalgarhi, Takht-i-Bahai, Sahri Bahlol, etc, as a subject of comparison and examination. Unfortunately, the exact location of Sikri site has not been ascertained. The preservation of the presumed location has been performed in a very poor condition, and the remains are left to be disclosed by illegal excavation. Therefore, concrete excavation is needed to be carried out under the systematic plan.
