Abstract

This study set out to review differences between the manuscript of Mongojip(eight volumes), which is housed by the head family of Mongo, and its remaining printed books. The head family also houses its printed books, which were published in 1912. On appearance, these printed books become total three volumes when ‘Mongoyeonbo’ is separated and total two volumes when it is combined with the main texts. In the nation, eight institutions house the printed books including Jangseogak. Only the National Library of Korea has the two-volume version, whereas the other ones have the three-volume version. The study compared the printed books with the manuscript at the head family in terms of content and found that the printed books summed up approximately 40% of the manuscript. The head family also had the manuscript and printed book of ‘Mongoyeonbo’. Its printed book also summed up the content of the manuscript considerably like the case of the main texts. The manuscript of Mongojip contained many materials about Kim Jong-su's family, relatives, and daily life. These findings raise a need to publish the manuscripts of Mongojip and ‘Mongoyeonbo’ that were housed at the head family and recorded Kim's genuine voice for broad research on him.
