Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the volume, height, and mesiodistal length of the bone graft material after maxillary sinus elevation using the lateral approach by performing virtual three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the bone graft. Materials and Methods: Eleven patients underwent maxillary sinus elevation using the lateral approach in 11 cases. In all patients, deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) was used as the bone graft material, and the window formed on the side wall of the maxillary sinus was covered with a collagen membrane. Immediately after surgery (T1) and an average of 5.81 ± 1.40 months after surgery (T2), CBCT was taken and the absorption volume, height, and mesio-distal width of the graft material were measured at two time points. At T1 and T2, the average bone graft material volumes were 3,864 ± 698 mm³ and 2,878 ± 350 mm³, respectively. Results: The volume of the bone graft material decreased by an average of 21.8%, showing a statistically significant difference. The average height of the bonegraft material was measured to be 14.4 ± 2.83 mm in T1 and 13.19 ± 1.47 mm in T2 , but it was not statistically significant. After maxillary sinus elevation using the lateral approach, the volume of grafted bone decreases over time. The rate of absorption of the bone graft material at an average of 5.81 months after surgery was measured to be 21.8%. Conclusion: There was no significant decrease in the height of the bone graft material at an average of six months after surgery. These results indicate that DBBM is a reliable and predictable material for maxillary sinus elevation.
