급변하는 세상 가운데 지도력에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 그 중요성이 더욱 부각되고 있다. 효과적이고 올바른 신앙적 지도력의 확립을 위 해서는 지도자의 성격에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 이를 위해서 이미 그동안의 지 도력의 연구들이 성격과 밀접한 관계가 있었다는 점과, 반면에 성격 이해에 있 어서 한계가 있었음을 분석한다. 이 한계점을 극복하고 특별히 신앙 공동체의 지도자에게 필요한 지도력을 세우기 위해서는, 성격 형성의 핵심적 요소인 하 나님과의 관계성이 무엇보다 중요하다. 또한 지도자에 대한 성격 이해가 단편 적인 특성에 제한되는 것이 아니고, 성격의 근본적인 구성에 초점을 맞추어야 하고, 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 아우르는 통시적인 이해와 치유가 선행되어 야 한다. 또한 지도력의 증진을 가져오게 하는 성격의 변화는 근본적인 구조와 영적 영역에서 이루어져야 하고, 관계에 기초한 기독교 멘토링이 정착되어야 한다.
Abstract
It is argued that there is a high correlation between effective Christian leadership and leader’s personality. Leadership depends on not only leaders’some traits and specific behavior, but also their personality structure that seems necessary to engender and sustain effective leadership. First of all, the article argues the need for the maturity of personality provided by relationship with God and others. Relationship with God and following Jesus Christ are significant in shaping the Christian personality. Second, the article highlights the utility of incorporating a developmental perspective on the personality in the study and practice of leadership. The awareness of shadow in a leader’s personal life and its healing have a important influence upon his personality and leadership style. Finally, the resources for change which would help one to grow into mature personality are discussed. It suggests the ways of developing leader’s own character structure and deploying the important aspect of Christian mentoring in the maturing process of a personality and thus changing leadership style.
