Objectives This study attempted to understand human life through the concept of "Hon, Baek, Ui, Ji, Sin" and to find the possibility of applying it to the diagnosis of mental and physical abnormalities of patients. Methods For the understanding of "Hon, Baek, Ui, Ji, and Sin", based on related oriental medical literature and papers, it was investigated to match the perceptions of Eastern philosophy, Western psychology, human sociology, genetic biology, social biology, and neuropsychiatric medicine. Result ‘Hon, Baek’ is a defense mechanism against death to maintain life, and ‘Eui’ is a survival strategy for life to acquire energy sources that are essential to life. ‘Ji’ is a continuation strategy for the survival of the species by acquiring genetic descendants. ‘Sin’ is the central axis of controlling human life activities that oversee mental thinking activities such as emotions, intelligence, and creativity, and each element can be said to be an oriental medical "human nature." I-Jeong-Byeon-Gi Therapy is a counseling technique that moves in harmony with the balance of the functional structure called "Hon, Baek, Ui, Ji, and Sin" and changes emotions to respond and express variously to external stimuli. Conclusion The understanding of "Hon, Baek, Ui, Ji, Sin" can help enhance the effectiveness of diagnosis aimed at holistic treatment in terms of patient thinking, behavior, and emotion, along with an understanding of the improvement of physical and mental abnormalities occurring in the patient's life process.
