Abstract

Objectives This study aimed to classify and analyze clinical studies that utilized Ryodoraku as a diagnostic or assessment tool between 2014 and 2024, according to the KCD-8 disease categories, and to assess recent research trends and the scope of clinical application. Methods A literature search was conducted in OASIS, DBpia, KISS, ScienceOn, and PubMed using the keywords “양도락” and “ryodoraku” (last searched on August 20, 2024). Eligible studies included clinical research that applied Yangdorak (Ryodoraku) for diagnostic or assessment purposes (RCTs, clinical trials, before-and-after studies, and case reports). Three independent reviewers screened and selected the final set of studies through consensus. Result A total of 22 studies were included (17 domestic and 5 international), comprising 16 studies that employed Yangdorak (Ryodoraku) as a diagnostic tool and 6 as an assessment tool. The most frequent disease category was the digestive system (12 studies), followed by the respiratory system (3) and the nervous system (2). Assessment studies more often focused solely on comparing the average Ryodoraku score (ARS) than diagnostic studies (66.7% vs. 37.5%). Notably, repeated associations were observed between H1 (LU9) in respiratory system studies and H6 (LI5) in functional dyspepsia studies. Conclusion Yangdorak (Ryodoraku) has been primarily applied in clinical research related to digestive, respiratory, and nervous system disorders. However, it’s specificity for differentiating particular diseases remains limited. Further high-quality research with standardized measurement methods and risk-of-bias assessments is warranted.
